Why Lake Norman Christian School?
Dear Prospective LKNC Family,
Currently, there are 778 private schools in North Carolina in which the average child spends roughly 1,215 hours per year. As a parent, it’s a given that I should want the best education possible for my children and it’s my responsibility to choose the best vehicle for that education. So, why have my wife and I chosen Lake Norman Christian School as that vehicle to educate our two boys? What is it about Lake Norman Christian that makes it the number one choice for my family out of our 778 private North Carolina options? Is it the location, the great facilities, small class sizes, experienced teachers, great curriculum or the fact that it has a rate of 100% student acceptance to colleges across the nation? Is it that it offers dual enrollment and AP courses, athletics, drama, and other fine arts? In short, no. For us, Lake Norman Christian School is the educational vehicle we choose for our children because it partners with us in the number one responsibility we have as parents, to “train up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).”
In Deuteronomy 6:7, I see that, as a father, I am to diligently teach my children while I am going about my day: “And thou shalt teach them (statutes/Biblical truths) diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” Another way to say this is to say that I am to show, not tell, my children how to “do” life. I am to model for them what a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ looks like, acts like, and speaks like. In order to model these things for my children, it is necessary that they be in my presence. However, even working at a school that my children attend, it is difficult to keep them in my presence. I am responsible, then, for choosing a school that will partner with me in my responsibility to “train” during those 1,215 hours per year.
At Lake Norman Christian School, education is “done” in a manner that glorifies God and keeps Christ at the center of everything, while providing excellence in academics, athletics, arts, and the like, in a safe, nurturing, fulfilling environment where children can thrive. At Lake Norman Christian School, students are taught a Biblical worldview that includes how to handle diversities of life, the diffusions of influence, and the strains of growing up in the society of today. Teachers at Lake Norman Christian School lead instead of just teach, discipline instead of only point out faults and failures, and love each and every student, even when it’s hard. While they rely on God and put Him at the center of all they do, they also model it, teach it, and exemplify it for the students. Top academics are taught; a rigorous course load is provided as preparation for the future; and the environment challenges students to think critically in all disciplines.
At home, my family holds itself to high (not perfect) standards. I refuse to send my children to a school for 1,215 hours a year that waters down those standards for the sake of an “education.” My children learn at home how to respond, grow, and work as a Christian should, from a Biblical perspective. I choose Lake Norman Christian School as my partner in the education of my sons because here they can learn, they can fail, they can rise, and they can grow in a Christ-like environment, with Christ-like teachers, and classmates (faults and all) just as they do at home. As a parent and also the Head of School, I have chosen, and continue to choose Lake Norman Christian School to partner with me to “train up my sons.”
